Julia<\/strong>, even if only in passing.\u00a0 I won\u2019t actually go into \u201creview\u201d mode here.\u00a0 However, in case you might have missed it, the movie is based on two books:\u00a0 <a title=\"Amazon.ca\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/Julie-Julia-Year-Cooking-Dangerously\/dp\/031604251X\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Julie &amp; Julia:\u00a0 My Year of Cooking<\/span> Dangerously<\/a> by Julie Powell and <a title=\"Amazon.ca\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/gp\/product\/0316013269\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">My Life in France<\/span> <\/a>by Julia Child and Alex Prud\u2019homme.\u00a0 Figuring prominently in both was the mother of all French cooking tomes, <a title=\"Amazon.ca\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/Mastering-Art-French-Cooking-I\/dp\/0375413405\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mastering the Art of French Cooking<\/span> <\/a>by Simone Beck, Louisette Bertholle, and Julia Child.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/gp\/product\/0316013269\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-258 alignleft\" title=\"JuliePowell\" src=\"https:\/\/crispybits.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/JuliePowell.jpg\" alt=\"JuliePowell\" width=\"192\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crispybits.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/JuliePowell.jpg 500w, https:\/\/crispybits.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/JuliePowell-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/crispybits.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/JuliePowell-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 192px) 100vw, 192px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two years ago, I brought Ms Powell\u2019s book along with me on a trip home to my parents.\u00a0 It was a quick and breezy read and I admired her challenge of working her way through 524 recipes over the course of a year.\u00a0 In fact, it prompted me to pick up my very own copy of MtAoFC (as Julie efficiently\u00a0labels it).\u00a0 It is a classic, after all, and I certainly couldn\u2019t deprive myself of yet another cookbook.\u00a0 In order to qualify for free shipping (\u201cD*mn you, Amazon!!!\u201d), I had to top up my order and selected Prud-homme\u2019s memoir of his great grand aunt Julia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0I think MtAoFC received more attention than all my other cookbooks combined.\u00a0 Seriously.\u00a0 I sat down and read it cover to cover.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I\u2019d cook much from it, and the recipes are somewhat dated.\u00a0 But 16 pages on how to make a souffl\u00e9 was just too much enjoyment for me.\u00a0 Definitely food porn&#8230;in a literary way.\u00a0 Anyway,\u00a0the memoir was a lovely companion piece to her cookbook since it essentially documented said book\u2019s conception and birth.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know much about her before (although I could do a wicked impression), and I walked away from both books marveling at her passion, fortitude and zest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-257  aligncenter\" title=\"Meryl Streep\" src=\"https:\/\/crispybits.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Meryl-Streep-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"Meryl Streep\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crispybits.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Meryl-Streep-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/crispybits.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/Meryl-Streep.JPG 680w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The film is a nice tribute to both Julie and Julia, and that\u2019s exactly what it was\u2026a gentle reflection on both these women, whipping up a gastronomical storm.\u00a0 Meryl Streep really does deserve accolades for her success in channelling la Grande Gourmande.\u00a0 Read <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">My Life in France<\/span>, though;
